National Ecological Observatory Network

THE CHALLENGE

Researchers using National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) data requested an easier way to quickly discern the location of measurements relative to other measurements taken at the same field site. Working with NEON scientists, external researchers, and engineers, I designed an interactive, accessible mapping experience.

SolutionS

In order to provide users with customizeable maps for their research projects, we decided to try adding interactive layers of information to the existing zoomable maps on individual field site pages. Each field site would then have its own associated data that would be a mix of point locations and collection boundaries on the map with the ability to click on a point and see pop-up metadata information.
